LoudMouth Baitfish
Loudmouth baitfish, in the vise it's awesome, in the water it screams "Eat Me Please" to any fish thats around and they usually do. Tie from small to jumbo in many colors for any species you are targeting and expect big things. Please even though it is a pain or an extra step sometimes put eyes on most baitfish patterns, the difference is tremendous.

Tag: Senyo Laser dub orange
Body: UV Ice dub polar
Underwing: UV polar ice dub
Overwing: Senyo Laser Dub Chart.
Big Fish eat little fish martini. This is a good replica of a little fish that needs to be eaten. For low water tie as is, for higher flows add some lead wraps (2-3) around hook shank. Overwing can be any color you choose.
 |
Lay Down a thread base, tie in tag just in front of hook point. Tag can be trimmed to length. |
 |
Polar ice dub body dubbed and wrapped forward leaving room for two wings. |
 |
First wing is same as body material, polar ice dub. Tie in a small length leaving some hang over hook eye. Part down the middle the forward hanging dubbing and fold back and down along body then tie in. |
 |
You want the wraps tied in front of dubbing to give it round minnow profile. |
 |
Tie in over wing and again leave some overhang. Split in half and fold down along body the remaining laser dub like shown below. |
 |
Dub is split in half and can be tied in after stroking and holding towards rear of fly. Remember to keep thread wraps in front of material. |
 |
Finished fly. |
 |
Color choice for wing is up to you, feel free to experiment. Here are a few of my favorites. |
Shop is very well stocked with dubbing brushes and everything else for your fly tying needs.
DB Bugger
Hook: Diachii 2220 sz 2-8
Tail: Marabou
Body: Puglisi Tarantula hairy legs brush 1" width
Cone head size and color of preference.
**wire dubbing brush will dull good scissors so an old or inexpensive pair should be on hand**
DB Bugger is a simple wooly bugger variation tied with a pre-made dubbing brush (DB). The use of the dubbing brush increases speed immensely allowing for more flies and different styles, colors, etc. to be tied per sitting. This pattern will have your bugger box full and looking good. Most importantly with the colors of dubbing brushes available you will be ready for all water conditions.
After tying a few this should take less than a minute per fly.
Cone on hook, hook in vise. Add Marabou tail and wrap excess marabou along hook shank to cone. Edge of tail should be aligned with barb on hook.
Tie in dubbing brush and wrap thread forward to cone.
Tie off dubbing brush, whip finish and done. Its that easy.
A few hours of tying will have you a supply of buggers any guide would be envious of.
Hot and fresh out of the kitchen its the remix. Taking the best attributes of productive patterns and putting them into one to create a super fly(hopefully)
Remix:
20mm fish skull shank
6/0 uni-thread
medium dumbell eyes
orange sts tri-lobal dubbing
deer hair
silver flashabou
blue flashabou

SZ 4 Octopus hook
Length can vary depending on target species, water clarity etc. but my most popular size is around 2 1/2 inches.
This is a fly you will thank me for sharing and the steelhead, bass, salmon, trout will hate me for sharing. Tie it in a bunch of colors and see for yourself.
Shank is in vise with medium dumbell eyes and fireline trailer for hook are tied in.

Spun deer hair or artic fox dubbing brush 2 wraps to give body to fly.
Silver flashabou tied in at the center and pulled back on opposite side, excess flashabou tied in same way on bottom for throat. (see how blue is tied in below for better pic.)
Blue flashabou about 10-14 strands tied in same way as silver in center of flashabou.
Then pulled back to cover both sides.
Make dubbing loop for rabbit.
Rabbit in dubbing loop to form head whip finish and done.
Shank: 35mm

Body: Silver body braid
Lateral line: krinkle flash laser

Low Rider is for lower flows which i feel we may have to contend with this Fall. Smaller size of this fly lends itself well to more natural colors for mid day fishing and blacks and purples during low light.
 |
STS dubbing in dubbing loop for tag after thread base and loop for hook is tied in. |
 |
About 14 pieces ostrich herl in dubbing loop followed by silver body braid. |
 |
Artic fox dubbing brush natural, 2 wraps. |
 |
2 strands each side of krinkle flash in laser color. |
 |
2-3 wraps olive marabou. |
 |
Small clump olive ice dub for head, whip finish and done. |
 |
This version uses lite blue marabou, 3 wraps silver hackle flash and finished with pearl ice dub. |
 |
I am stocking up on smaller, sparser flies for swinging this Fall and suggest you do the same just in case we are dealing with low water conditions. |
